The term “Naturally Raised” means different things to different people. At Applegarth, Naturally Raised means sunlight, fresh air, grass. It means going out to pasture as desired. Being healthy and content.
Pasture Grazing Livestock
The sheep and goats have free access to their pasture from May through October. Of their own choosing, they come back to the barn and barnyard each night, avoiding potential contact with predators. Birthing is always in or close to the barn, thus reducing predator temptation. Homeopathy is our preferred system of treating illness or injury. We also use Reiki, massage, herbs and acupuncture as needed. We have found allopathic medicine to be useful if used very sparingly and only when an animal’s safety and comfort dictate.

Applegarth raises pork outdoors with sun, grass, hay and quality feed concentrates. They have free access to their shelters and fresh water at all times. Although pigs who live outdoors take in important minerals from the soil,
we still provide high quality mineral supplements to ensure optimum health.
Free-range Chickens/eggs
Our naturally fed laying hens have pasture access throughout the growing season, as do the meat birds. We use portable electric netting to keep rotating them to clean, fresh ground. In winter the hens prefer to remain indoors where sunlight warms and brightens their shed.
They can go outside in a covered yard if they choose.
British White Park Bull
Applegarth’s British White Park cows and steers live on certified organic pasture and hay; they are an old breed of beef cattle, calm and gentle, that remain rather independent while grazing quietly on the hillside. British White Park Beef is lean and tender with a light, rather sweet flavor.
At Applegarth, you get a fresh wholesome meat product that tastes good and is good for you. Remember, no growth hormones or antibiotics are used – you get all the benefits of naturally, humanely raised, grass finished meats.
